Where to Stay in Nusa Lembongan & Things I Like
TRAVEL

Once you see the color of the water here, you'll understand why Nusa Lembongan is my favorite in Bali. It's small, genuinely small enough to scooter across in under 20 minutes, but there are so many beaches spread along its coast, and just as many places to actually stay. Cross the famous yellow bridge, a narrow, hand-built suspension bridge painted bright yellow, and you're on Nusa Ceningan, Lembongan's even quieter neighbor, home to the Blue Lagoon and some genuinely lovely hotels of its own. Honestly, it doesn't matter much which island you sleep on, Lembongan or Ceningan, as long as you've got a scooter to get around. This Where to Stay in Nusa Lembongan guide will help you figure out exactly where to sleep, on either island, and what to actually do once you're there.
Where to Stay in Nusa Lembongan
Nusa Lembongan sits a short boat ride from Sanur, and it feels like a genuinely different pace of life the moment you step off the boat, no scooter traffic jams, no beach club queues, just cliffside views, clear water, and a noticeably slower island rhythm.
Luxury: Batu Karang Lembongan Resort & Spa
Consistently called the best resort on the island by repeat guests. Perched on a steep headland with sweeping views over Jungut Batu and across to Bali and Mount Agung, with three pools, spacious Balinese-style villas, and a golf-buggy service to ferry you up and down the hill. This is the honeymoon pick, and it earns that reputation.
Luxury: The Tamarind Resort - Nusa Lembongan
A hillside retreat built around a centuries-old tamarind tree, balancing genuine luxury with Lembongan's raw, unpolished beauty. Three pools, attentive staff who go out of their way to arrange local experiences, and a short walk to Paradise Beach.
Mid-Range: The Shacks at Sandy Bay
A peaceful hillside retreat surrounded by tropical greenery, offering a relaxed blend of comfort and Lembongan’s natural charm. With beautiful views, inviting pools, and a laid-back atmosphere, it’s a great choice if you want to stay close to Sandy Bay while enjoying a quieter side of the island.
Budget: Pondok Baruna Frangipani Resort
A genuinely excellent 3-star budget property. An outdoor pool, free airport shuttle, and a location just four minutes' walk from both the mangrove forest and Paradise Beach. Proof that a lower price tag here doesn't have to mean a lower-quality stay.

Where to Stay in Ceningan
If you’re looking for a quieter alternative to Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Ceningan is a great place to stay. Connected to Lembongan by the famous yellow bridge, the island has a more laid-back feel, with cliffside views, small beach spots, and a handful of beautiful stays. I personally love Ceningan for its slower pace and easy access to both the island’s natural spots and everything Nusa Lembongan has to offer.
Luxury: Blue Lagoon Avia Villas
Cliffside villas built in traditional Balinese style, overlooking the Blue Lagoon itself, with a private lap pool, a wooden and bamboo interior, and one of the best views on either island.
Mid-Range: Pramana Nusa Ceningan
A genuinely peaceful escape, quiet, surrounded by nature, with clean, thoughtfully designed rooms, ideal if slowing down is the whole point of your stay.
Budget: Le Pirate Beach Club Hotel Nusa Ceningan
A relaxed, social beach club hotel right on the island, an easy, affordable base if you want to be close to Ceningan's restaurants and the walk over to Secret Beach.
Best Things to Do in Nusa Lembongan
Nusa Lembongan may be small, but there’s plenty to do beyond simply relaxing by the beach. From surfing and snorkeling in crystal-clear waters to exploring hidden beaches, catching the sunset, and discovering the island by scooter, there’s something for every kind of traveller. Here are some of my favourite things to do in Nusa Lembongan and the experiences I wouldn’t want to miss.
Surf Shipwrecks, Playgrounds & Lacerations
Lembongan's reef breaks are genuinely well-regarded, Shipwrecks and Playgrounds suit intermediate surfers, while Lacerations and Razors deliver more punch for advanced riders. Several breaks are visible right from the clifftop cafes if you want to watch before you paddle out.
Snorkel Crystal Bay, Mangrove Point & Gamat Bay
Crystal Bay and Manta Point both offer a real chance of swimming alongside manta rays, while Mangrove Point and Gamat Bay deliver calmer, coral-rich snorkeling suited to less confident swimmers.
Watch the Waves at Devil's Tears
A dramatic clifftop spot where waves crash violently against the rocks below, one of the most photographed viewpoints on the island, and worth timing for late afternoon light.
Relax at Dream Beach and Mushroom Bay
Two of Lembongan's most beautiful stretches of sand, calmer and better suited to actually swimming than the surf-focused breaks elsewhere on the island.
Kayak the Mangrove Forest
A genuinely peaceful paddle through Lembongan's mangrove forest, a completely different side of the island from its clifftop views and surf breaks.
Day-Trip to Nusa Ceningan
If you prefer to stay in Nusa Lembongan, cross the yellow suspension bridge to neighboring Nusa Ceningan for the Blue Lagoon and a quieter, even less developed version of Lembongan itself, easily done as a half-day add-on.
